The Lion Village Gallery

        Those are most of the pictures I took during my visit to the Lion Village in Egypt in the summer of 2001. The village has about 20-25 lions and lionesses, which are living in really miserable conditions. You can read more about my visit to the lion's village in my lions in Egypt today page. The pictures below will also give you a better vision of how the lions are living harshly there.

                This is an isolated big male with one eye, I wonder how did he lose the second eye!                                 This is the main lion of the captive pride, he is a wonderful male                                  The main lion trying to get some shade

                The workers in the village handed the cub to me to take pictures with, and those were very young cubs and I noticed how they panted rapidly from exhaustion, heat and fear!                                 This cub was about 5-6 months old and as you see he has been tightly chained with a rusty, steel chain from his neck!                                  The cub looks so cute, I just wished I can remove the chain from his neck


                I finally caught the cub's attention, I wonder if he is scared from me or just curious                                 I think the cub liked me because he just came running to be in the picture with me, I really wished there were no bars                                  I decided to go to the side of teh cage to see the cub closer, and surprisngly no body in the village objected!!


                Soo close to the cute cub, I was just so mad to see him chained like that                                 The cub is wondering what am I doing to get his attention                                  You can see how the cage bars are so rusty!


I really wonder what is the meaning of the look in his eyes...
